RICHMOND—Jay Gruden scattered some injury updates through his press conference on Saturday. Here is where some of the sidelined players stand.
—Jordan Reed remains on the PUP list and he’s trying some different equipment to get himself back on the field. “Jordan got some special orthotics in today,” said Gruden. “He’s going to try these out for a couple of days and we’ll take a look at him probably after the Green Bay game, hopefully.” The use of both “probably” and “hopefully” translate to “no promises” but it’s apparent that this situation is dragging on longer than anyone thought it would.
—Gruden confirmed that Trent Murphy is out for the season with a torn ACL. “It’s unfortunate, just wrong place at the wrong time in pro football,” said Gruden. “It was a great play by Zach Brown. He knocked their fullback back right into [Trent’s] knee and it was really unavoidable, unfortunately. Hopefully, he gets his speedy [recovery].”
—Murphy had one of two injuries that Gruden said would require an MRI. The other was Su’a Cravens’ knee and the news there was much better. Gruden said there was no structural damage to the knee. “Cravens just had some swelling in his knee and we’re going to just keep a close eye on it and go day by day with this thing, see how it does in the next couple days, see if it can get the swelling out of there and see if he can practice,” he said.
—On the positive side, Gruden said that draft picks CB Fabian Moreau (3rd round) and S Montae Nicholson (4th) would be full participants in practice for the first time this year. Indeed they were, taking reps in team drills as well as position work.

—It’s going to be hard to man the outside linebacker position. Gruden said that Ryan Anderson has a stinger and may not be able to go. Preston Smith still is recovering from a sprained ankle. Junior Galette’s hamstring injury will keep him out “six, seven days” per Gruden. He also said that Lynden Trail is “banged up”. That leaves only Ryan Kerrigan as a healthy outside linebacker. Look for the Redskins to sign someone to take the place of Murphy, who is has been placed on injured reserve.
