Carriker out, Wilson recovering from concussion

Adam Carrikers worst fears were realized Monday morning when it was confirmed that he suffered a torn tendon in his right leg during the Redskins' 31-28 loss in St. Louis.Carriker was injured on the Rams second drive when he planted his foot and felt a sharp pain. Coach Mike Shanahan said the defensive tore the tendon between his quadriceps at the base of the knee. The injury will require surgery this week and Carriker miss five months.Shanahan said Carriker will be replaced in the starting lineup by Jarvis Jenkins. It also means fellow linemen Kedric Golston and Chris Baker will see increased playing time, while Doug Worthington likely will be signed off the practice squad. We have young guys like Jarvis Jenkins, who now gets the opportunity to start, Shanahan said. A year ago, we lost Jarvis and Adam took over and did a great job. Jarvis will get his opportunity.Cornerback Josh Wilson, meantime, cannot practice until hes cleared in accordance to NFL protocol for concussions. Wilson was injured in the third quarter Sunday during a helmet-to-helmet collision with Rams running back Daryl Richardson."Concussions have a certain protocol that we have to go through and that starts tomorrow," Shanahan said. "So I'll have more information on Wednesday."

First Redskins player cracks top half of 2017 NFL Top 100 list

Watch a lot of football and few would argue Trent Williams is the best player on the Redskins. As a tackle, his position does not lend itself to many statistics, but listen to players inside and outside of the Redskins locker room and it's easy to understand just how good Williams is.

The proof came when Williams landed 47 on the NFL's Top 100 list, as voted by NFL players.

Named to the Pro Bowl the last five seasons, Williams missed four games due to suspension in 2016 but was rated as the best left tackle in football by Pro Football Focus.

Williams joins Kirk Cousins, Jordan Reed and Josh Norman on the Top 100 list. Cousins landed 70th on the list, Reed at 65 and Norman at 59.

Last week, Jay Gruden explained that Williams was not present at Redskins OTAs but the head coach expected his tackle was working out on his own.

Redskins Playbook: When to expect a new GM to replace Scot McCloughan?

Redskins Playbook: When to expect a new GM to replace Scot McCloughan?

The Redskins fired GM Scot McCloughan in early March when the 2017 NFL season technically began at the start of the free agency period. The move was made clumsily, at best, though the team was able to navigate free agency and the NFL Draft with much success.

With a few more weeks of team activities until the quietest period of the NFL calendar begins in mind-June, might the Redskins hire a new general manager?

Last week, team president Bruce Allen said the Redskins have spoken with more than 10 front office candidates and that Washington could make as many as three new hires. Allen did not provide a timeline for the moves.

Looking at the calendar, it would make sense for the Redskins to announce new hires around the conclusion of minicamp on June 15. The Redskins won't have another official team activity until training camp opens in late July in Richmond. It's also possible that new hires will be made during that quiet period, though for many, that month long period is about the only true remnant of the NFL offseason.

Don't expect a new outside hire to get the title of general manager. That seems much more likely to be an internal promotion, likely fro Eric Schaeffer, Alex Santos, Doug Williams or Scott Campbell. Washington will likely add to the front office, like Allen suggested.
