Tracy hopes to avoid disabled list

It seems every time the Nationals get a player back from injury, another goes down. In this case the return of Chien-Ming Wang could coincide with a trip for Chad Tracy to the disabled list. Tracy injured his right leg while running the bases in last night's win over the Braves.

Tracy had just hit a big double to score Ian Desmond and give Washington the lead when he started limping between first and second base. Tracy was attended to by trainer Lee Kuntz before leaving the game.

Davey Johnson told MLB.com the team is hopeful he can avoid the disabled list, but they won't know anything too soon.

"He is hoping he just popped some scar tissue, and he also talked to his doctor," Johnson said. "He said that he would wait a couple of days to see if that is the case. I hate to overreact and make a rush to make a roster move. Maybe he is going to be all right in two to three days."

Tracy told reporters he will have to wait and see as well.

"I'm pretty sore right now. We'll see what happens tomorrow," he said.

The 32-year-old Tracy has been solid for the Nationals as a utility man and pinch hitter. He ranks fourth on the team with 12 RBI despite having just 55 plate appearances, a third as many as some of his teammates. Tracy also has three home runs, four walks, and a .837 OPS.

After months of speculation, Nationals finally tab Blake Treinen as closer

After months of speculation, Nationals finally tab Blake Treinen as closer

With Opening Day just a week away, the Washington Nationals were still unsure of who would be the closer.

After the team didn't re-sign Mark Melancon this offseason, and missed out on top free agent Kenley Jansen, the team got dangerously close to starting the season without naming a closer.

That was, until Thursday morning, when manager Dusty Baker tabbed Blake Treinen as the pitcher who would handle the ninth inning in save situations.

"To be in the position Dusty has put me in, I feel honored," Treinen said according to Mark Zuckerman.

This will be Treinen's fourth season with the Nationals. In 2016, Treinen finished with a 2.28 ERA in 67 innings for the Nationals.  The 28-year-old also had 63 strikeouts in 67 innings.

The Washington Nationals will start their season against the Miami Marlins on Monday, April 3rd at Nationals Park.
