On Saturday, Mike Green started a new chapter in his career when he practiced with the Detroit Red Wings for the first time.


The Capitals had a long list of players with expiring contracts heading into the offseason.


In a phone interview with TSN on Wednesday, new Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green said waking up and realizing he was no longer a Capital “sort of slapped me in the face.”


After seeing defenseman Mike Green sign a three-year, $18 million with the Detroit Red Wings, the Capitals issued this statement:


For the first time since the Capitals made him the 29th overall pick of the 2004 NHL draft, Mike Green is no longer a Washington Capital.
