Usually the top pick in the draft is known well in advance of when the team team with the top pick goes on the clock. That was not the case today.
All day long, the Houston Texans maintained some mystery about who they would take with the top overall pick in the draft. Would it be South Carolina defensive end Jadaveon Clowney? Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack? A mystery pick? Or would they trade out of the pick altogether?
In the end, the mystery was no surprise. When Roger Goodell announced the first pick, it was Clowney, the player most agreed was the best in the draft.
Clowney will team up with defensive end J. J. Watt to provide the Texans with what will instantly become one of the fiercest pass rush tandems in the NFL.
The Clowney-Watt duo will first be on display against the Redskins when Washington travels to Houston for both teams' season opener on September 7.
