No, that's not a headline from yesterday. Tanard Jackson is back with the Redskins, again, the team has announced.

The Redskins released the safety yesterday after the NFL lifted an indefinite substance abuse suspension that sidelined him for 20 months. But they have signed him back to give him a chance to compete for a roster spot at the team's perpetually troubled safety spot.

His old contract was a minimum-salary deal so it's possible that the Redskins wanted to bring him back under a contract that would allow them to take advantage of the minimum salary benefit. That is a structure creates a credit that makes the contract count less against the salary cap than the player is getting paid.

There is no guarantee that Jackson will be around to collect that salary in the fall. He has played in just 12 games since the end of the 2009 season due to injuries and suspensions. But he did look good when he was with the team in training camp and it costs them little to give him a shot at making the roster.

Jackson's re-signing was first reported by NBC Washington.
