The Redskins have signed free agent safety Akeem Davis, the team announced Thursday morning.
Davis played for Memphis from 2009-2012 and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Seahawks last season. But the 6 foot 1, 200-pound converted linebacker did not make Seattle’s 53 man roster and was not on a roster in 2013.
Davis joins a crowded corps of safeties that includes Brandon Meriweather and Ryan Clark—the presumed starters—and reserves Phillip Thomas, who missed last season with a Lisfranc injury, Bacarri Rambo, Jose Gumbs and Trenton Robinson. Gumbs and Robinson were used primarily on special teams last season.
