Lache Seastrunk was thrilled to hear his name called in the sixth round. He was even happier to learn that he’s going to be reunited with Robert Griffin III in Washington.

“Oh man, it’s the coolest thing in the world,” said the 5 foot 9, 201-pound Seastrunk, whose time at Baylor overlapped with Griffin's. “I just achieved my lifelong goal and I get to play with one of my former teammates, so it’s a blessing.”

He added: “I [had] just texted him. I said, 'What’s the word?' I said I’m still on the board. He said, ‘Oh for real?’ I was like, ‘Yes.’”

Seastrunk's wait didn't have to wait much longer. The Redskins took him with the 186th overall pick.

Seastrunk is shifty and fast, having been clocked at 4.46 seconds in the 40 at his pro day. Last season with the Bears, he rushed 158 times for 1,177 yards (7.7 yard average) and 11 touchdowns. He did not record a reception, but Texas native says he showed at his pro day and during the combine that he’s capable of catching the ball out of the backfield.

“I really feel like I can catch the ball very well,” Seastrunk said. “I feel like if you give me an opportunity, I’m going to utilize it.”

Seastrunk joins a corps of running backs that already includes Alfred Morris, a 2012 sixth round pick, Roy Helu, Evan Royster and Chris Thompson. Seastrunk said he isn’t sure how the Redskins intend to use him.

Asked what separates him from other ball carriers, Seastrunk said, “I think I can say my speed and my toughness, being able to be a home run threat.”

Seastrunk began his college career at Oregon but transferred to Baylor as an NCAA investigation looked into the Ducks’ recruitment of him. He sat out the 2011 season because of transfer rules.
