Although Brian Orakpo expects to be limited in practice for a second straight day Thursday, the Redskins’ star linebacker says he'll be good to go for Sunday’s opener in Houston.
Orakpo is battling a sprained ankle that he suffered Aug. 23rd in Baltimore. At the time, Coach Jay Gruden called the injury “mild.”
Based on Orakpo’s level of participation in practice this week, though, the injury seems to be lingering a bit longer than originally anticipated.
“I got rolled up on pretty good,” Orakpo said. “It’s just been bothering me. We got to be smart with it. We have to go into Sunday healthy, 100-percent. It’s more of a maintenance thing.”
Orakpo added that rest has proven to be the best remedy.
“I know this defense. I know what I go to do,” he said. “It’s stupid to keep going out there and keep re-aggravating it. We just need to avoid having anything bad happen.”
