Redskins' Hatcher: ‘This is our team’

Jason Hatcher doesn’t know what the atmosphere was like at Redskins Park last season but he likes what he has seen there so far this year.

The former Cowboys, who signed a four-year, $27.5 million contract with the Redskins in March, called in to 103.5 The Fan in Dallas Thursday night. “There’s a lot of things different here,” Hatcher said (via the Dallas Morning News). “I don’t want to go into details about it because I don’t want to get blamed like, ‘Oh, he said this about Dallas…’”

Hatcher was impressed with how things are done under new coach Jay Gruden. “They really take care of the veteran guys. They give us more say-so over the team. This is our team,” he said. “The head coach doesn’t want to be policing the team. This is our team, so when we set the foundation for this football team, the way it’s supposed to go, that’s the way it’s supposed to go, through the players and not the coaches. It’s a players team, so whatever we say goes, pretty much, if it’s going in the right direction.”

Again, Hatcher is comparing the 2014 Redskins with the Cowboys under Jason Garrett. It will be interesting to see what the holdovers from the Shanahan regime have to say about how much say they have in how things are done with Jay Gruden as the head coach compared to how things were under Shanahan. We have heard a lot about the “new atmosphere” at Redskins Park and this could well be a part of it.

Some might be cautious here about the inmates running the asylum and that is something that bears watching. Different isn’t always better.
