RICHMOND—The “unofficial” depth charts that are included in pregame media notes are, well, a general guide for the media. They aren’t always 100-percent accurate, particularly in training camp when jobs are still up for grabs. But … they’re not totally fictitious, either, since the chart receives approval from the coaching staff before it gets released to media and, thus, the public.
Got it? Good.
So keeping all that in mind, here’s the first depth Redskins’ depth chart of the 2014 season:

Now, before you get all worked up about who’s listed where, remember what I said at the top. It’s a primarily guide for media covering Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Patriots. You should probably also take into account what Coach Jay Gruden said when asked about the chart’s accuracy.
“Nothing is set in stone right now,” Gruden said. "We just had to do it for the media. So we just put the depth chart out there and we have a pretty good idea of who our [starters] are and our [second stringers] are, but there’s still plenty of competition at a lot of spots. But this is our starting point right now. Sometimes, if it’s close, we put the veteran in front and then we’ll just go from there [and] let the preseason games play out. That could be changeable. We could change it after our first preseason game. We’ll see how it goes.”
