Georgetown's path to the Final Four
South Region: No. 2 Georgetown
The Hoyas are 25-6 overall and 14-4 in BIG EAST play as they face No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast in their first game of the NCAA tournament. Otto Porter leads the team in scoring as they come off a 58-55 loss to Syracuse in the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament. Seeded second in the South bracket, the Hoyas look to claim a National Championship.
No. 5 VCU
The VCU Rams will face No. 12 Akron in the second round of the NCAA South bracket. VCU is coming off a tough 62-56 loss in the A-10 Championship game against St. Louis. The Rams post an overall record of 26-8 and are 12-4 in the A-10.
No. 3 Florida
The Florida Gators are 26-7 overall and 14-4 in the SEC as they take on No. 14 Northwestern State in their opening round of the NCAA Championships. The Gators fell to Ole Miss in the SEC Championship game, but had notable wins over Marquette and Wisconsin earlier this season. The Gators are led by Erik Murphy, Patric Young, and Kenny Boynton.
No. 1 Kansas
Seeded second overall, the Kansas Jayhawks are the number one seed of the South bracket. The Jayhawks face No. 16 Western Kentucky in their first game of the tournament. Kansas is coming off a Big 12 title over Kansas State and has won 10 of their last 11 games. KU is 29-5 this season.
No. 6 UCLA
UCLA will face No. 11 seed Minnesota in the second round of the NCAA Championships. The Bruins won the 2013 Pac-12 Conference regular-season title despite losing to Oregon in the finals of the Pac-12 Tournament. Georgetown beat UCLA 78-70 on November 19. The Bruins have an overall record of 25-9.
No. 8 North Carolina
The No. 8 seeded Tar Heels will take on No. 9 Villanova in their opening game in the South bracket. North Carolina is 24-10 overall and 12-6 in conference play. The team is led by James Michael McAdoo. The Tar Heels recently fell 87-77 in the ACC final to Miami.
No. 15 Florida Gulf Coast
No. 15 seed Florida Gulf Coast will face No. 2 Georgetown in their first game of the NCAA Championships. The Eagles won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and hold an overall record of 24-10 this season. This is the Eagle's second season competing at the Division I level.
No. 4 Michigan
Michigan will play No. 13 seed South Dakota State in their opening game of the NCAA Tournament. Michigan has an overall record of 26-7 and has a 12-6 record in the Big Ten to tie for fourth in the conference. The Wolverines fell to Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament. This is Michigan's 24th NCAA tournament appearance in program history.
No. 7 San Diego State
The Aztecs will take on No. 10 seed Oklahoma in the second round of the South bracket. Jamaal Franklin leads the team in points and rebounds. The Aztecs are coming off a 60-50 loss to the New Mexico Lobos. The Aztecs are 22-10 overall and 9-7 in conference play.
No. 9 Villanova
The Villanova Wildcats will face No. 8 UNC in their opening game of the NCAA Championships. This is Villanova's eighth trip to the tournament in the last nine years. The Wildcats lost to Louisville in the BIG EAST quarterfinals. On March 6, the Wildcats beat the Hoyas 67-57.
No. 10 Oklahoma
Oklahoma will play No. 7 seed San Diego State in their first game of the NCAA Championships. The Sooners tied for fourth place in the Big 12. Senior forward, Romero Osby leads the team averaging 15.8 points. Oklahoma is 3-0 all-time against San Diego State.
