The nation's No. 1 college football recruit according to Rivals.com, Woodbridge (Va.) defensive lineman Da'Shawn Hand, will announce his college decision Thursday at noon on NBCSN. Leading up to the decision, Comcast SportsNet will take a look at his recruitment, where he could end up, and how he would fit at each possible destination.
Michigan, Florida, Alabama
HOW HE FITS
Alabama has been a NFL machine over the past five seasons. In just that five-season stretch, the Crimson Tide have produced 14 first-round NFL draft picks. It's no wonder that the program has won two straight national championships and three of the last four.
That would be the draw for Hand. He has a chance to go to the most powerful football machine in the country, play under one of the nation's best coaches (if the rumor mill stops turning and he stays), and likely compete for three SEC and national championships, then if all goes as planned ride off into the NFL sunset.
The program speaks for itself. The ability of Saban to recruit and foster NFL talent speaks for itself. It then comes down to Hand's desires and if that's what he values most.
Hand visited Alabama on the weekend of Oct. 26, which included a 45-10 Crimson Tide win over Tennessee. Through the process, Hand has stressed academics as one the main factors that will sway his decision.
"I met with the business professor too and he was good," Hand told Rivals.com after the visit. "The academic support is amazing. They have individual tutors and that's good to help you manage your time."
Will Saban's recruiting machine be able to reel in another blue-chipper?
