The latest on the Dwight Howard situation

From Comcast SportsNet
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- New Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan has met face-to-face with Dwight Howard, but the team isn't commenting on what was discussed. Team spokesman Joel Glass confirmed a meeting between Hennigan and Howard, but declined to discuss any particulars from it. Howard is in California, rehabbing a late-season back surgery. Yahoo Sports and ESPN.com have reported that Howard reissued a preseason trade request in that meeting and listed the Brooklyn Nets as his preferred destination. Hennigan said last week he wanted to keep all discussions with Howard confidential, and ownership has told him only to do what is in the best interest of the organization concerning Howard. Howard gave up the opt-out clause in his contract last season and is under contract in Orlando through the 2012-13 season.

New Redskins LB Anderson: 'I'm an old school football player'

The conference call that Redskins second-round pick Ryan Anderson had with the Washington media shortly after he was drafted got off to a slow start, with the former Crimson Tide linebacker giving short answers to a few questions.

But when he was asked what he would bring to the Redskins on the field, he became animated.

“I'm a play maker, I’m a game changer,” he said, with some emotion coming to his voice. “I'm a good teammate, I'm a good due to have in the locker room. I'm an old school football player, man. I'm not a workout warrior,

“I'm a football player. At the end of the day, that's why it boils down to. See ball, get ball, and strike the man in front of you. That's what I bring to the table.”

If Anderson lives up to his own billing, he could quickly become a fan favorite.

Redskins draft Alabama linebacker Ryan Anderson in second round

Some NFL teams have been hesitant to draft Alabama defenders. Not the Redskins. They have added two in two days.

With their second-round pick, the Redskins have drafted linebacker Ryan Anderson of the Crimson Tide. He had nine sacks and an interception for the national runners up last year.

Anderson was a five-star recruit coming out of high school but he didn’t become a full time starter until 2016.

The Redskins may use him at outside linebacker as an edge rusher. At 6-2, 253 they may want him to add a few pounds to defend against the run. Some scouts believe he also could play at inside linebacker in the Redskins’ 3-4 base defense.

On Thursday the Redskins made Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen their top pick.
