Alex Ovechkin carries the Olympic torch in Greece

Alex Ovechkin was back on the ice and looking surprisingly fresh Monday morning after his epic trip to Olympia, Greece for the lighting of the Olympic torch that will eventually make its way to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Winter Games.

Ovechkin skated on a top line with center Nicklas Backstrom and left wing Marcus Johansson at Kettler, one day before the Caps open their 2013-14 regular season in Chicago against the Blackhawks [8 p.m., NBCSN].

Brooks Laich, sidelined for all but one preseason game with a left hip flexor injury appears to be questionable. He skated as a fourth forward on a line that had center Mikhail Grabovski, left wing Marty Erat and right wing Troy Brouwer.

Here are the line combinations and defense pairings used by Adam Oates on Monday:

Forward Lines

Marcus Johansson – Nicklas Backstrom – Alex Ovechkin

Marty Erat – Mikhail Grabovski – Troy Brouwer

Jason Chimera – Eric Fehr – Joel Ward

Aaron Volpatti – Jay Beagle – Tom Wilson

Extras: Brooks Laich [left hip flexor], Michael Latta

Defense Pairings

Karl Alzner – Mike Green

John Erskine – John Carlson

Jack Hillen – Steve Oleksy

Extra: Connor Carrick

Braden Holtby – Michal Neuvirth

If Laich is feeling well enough to play when the Caps skate Tuesday in Chicago, those bottom three lines will likely see some shuffling.
