Mike Ribeiro, Matt Hendricks out of Washington
About two hours after Mike Ribeiro signed a four-year deal with the Phoenix Coyotes, former teammate Matt Hendricks became the second Capitals free agent to change addresses.
According to multiple reports, Hendricks has signed a four-year, $7.4 million contract with the Nashville Predators that will pay him $1.85 million per season.
Hendricks, 32, tried negotiating a new deal with the Caps back in March but the Caps were believed to be willing to go no higher than $1.5 million per year.
Hendricks led the Capitals with 73 penalty minutes last season and was a popular player in the dressing room and in the community, where he was active in charity work with the military.
Hendricks, who primarily played on the fourth line for the Caps, became expendable when the Capitals re-signed Aaron Volpatti. The club is also expecting Michael Latta to challenge for a fourth-line spot on next season’s roster.
