With goaltender Michal Neuvirth reportedly dealing with an illness, the Capitals have recalled 21 year old netminder Philipp Grubauer from the Hershey Bears for Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Grubauer heads to Washington with a 6-4-1 record, 2.10 goals-against average, and .928 save percentage in the American Hockey League. He spent the first half of the season in the East Coast Hockey League with the team's affiliate at Reading. There he went 19-5-1 with a 2.30 GAA and .912 save percentage.
The Capitals took Grubauer in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft with the 112th overall pick. The team has announced he will wear the number 31 in his first stint in the NHL.
