Scouting Report: For a kid taken in the sixth round last year, Barber’s stock soared during his freshman year at MiamiOhio. He was a first-team conference all-star, conference rookie of the year and helped the RedHawks to a conference-best 22-9-5 record. He also played a key role in Team USA’s gold medal in the World Under-20 Championships in Russia, recording three goals and three assists in seven games. He also won gold in the Under-18 World Championships and led Dubuque to the USHL title in 2010-11. In other words, all he does is win. Barber has excellent offensive instincts and saw time on MiamiOhio’s top power-play unit and penalty kill.

2013-14 Expectations: At 19, Barber is still developing physically and probably needs another season at Miami before challenging for a spot with the Caps, who will be anxious to see him at next month’s development camp. If he can build off his freshman season Barber could be prepping for a spot in the Caps’ top nine forwards in 2014-15.
