It has seemed like Alex Ovechkin's nifty near-post goal opened the floodgates.
The Caps have unleashed a barrage of goals in the 2nd Period, resulting in netminder Carey Price being pulled from the contest.
After Ovechkin, three different Capitals added goals of their own. John Erskine was first, redirecting one that trickled past Price.
Jay Beagle had perhaps the prettiest goal of the period. After Mike Green found Tom Wilson for a cross-ice pass, Wilson crossed it back to Beagle who tapped it in behind the helpless Price.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, John Carlson added one more for good measure, ripping one past Price with the long range wrister.
Mercifully, that proved to be the Caps' final goal of the period. For a team that has had difficulty scoring, the Caps looked pretty prolific in the second period.
