Another member of the Capitals popped the question and received the answer he was hoping to hear.
News leaked via social media that defenseman John Carlson, 24, became engaged to his girlfriend.
Carlson quietly scooted out of the Capitals’ dressing room at Kettler on Tuesday while reporters were speaking with teammate Alex Ovechkin, who is also engaged and is planning an offseason wedding with tennis star Maria Kirilenko.
“I didn’t really know it was coming,” Carlson’s defense partner Karl Alzner said. “I’ll let him figure it out on his own.”
Caps right winger Troy Brouwer said he was not surprised to hear Carlson will be tying the knot.
“We all knew it was bound to happen,” he said. “It was just a matter of when.”
Carlson has practically grown up in the Capitals organization, winning a Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears before beginning his NHL career as a 20-year-old in 2009-10.
In 306 career games with the Caps, Carlson has 33 goals and 128 points.
