Haslett on Manning: "He sees everything."

Peyton Manning leads the NFL in passing yards, ranks second in completion percentage and has tossed 25 touchdowns vs. only three interceptions.

And, until last week, he was also undefeated.

“Peyton sees everything,” Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett said Thursday. “Thinking you’re going to disguise something on him, he recognizes every coverage. He understands what you’re doing. He sees things.”

All true. But the Colts still found a way to beat Peyton and Co., 39-33. And they did it, in part, by getting in Manning’s face. Indianapolis sacked Manning four times and hit him a total of 10 times. Some observers believe Manning’s effectiveness declined after he was sacked for a safety by Robert Mathis in the second quarter. Manning had been sacked a total of five times in the previous six games.

Manning did not practice Wednesday but was expected to return to the field Thursday.

“First of all, he’s a big guy,” Haslett said. “He’s 6-6, 245-pounds. He’s a big body. So if you’re going to hit him, you have to bring a little force with you, try to chop the ball out. I thought the Colts did a good job on him at getting some pressure on him."

Haslett added: "I think that’s the key to the game.”
