Skins looking for answers before facing Detroit
Your Tuesday morning open thread:
It’s time to put the Redskins’ defense under the microscope. The unit ranks last in total yards allowed (1,023), last in rushing yards allowed (402) and second-to-last in points allowed (71).
What, in your estimation, is the unit’s biggest problem?
- Personnel? The unit is missing Jarvis Jenkins and Rob Jackson due to suspension and Adam Carriker because of injury. Brandon Meriweather, meantime, has played less than a half.
- Pass coverage? Opponents are averaging 10.2 yards per pass attempt, which, of course, is the most in the league. The Redskins are also one of five teams without an interception.
- Tackling? According to ProFootballFocus.com, the Redskins have missed 30 tackles through two games.
- The amount of the time the defense has spent on the field because of the struggles on offense?
Whatever it is, Jim Haslett and his staff have exactly five days to fix it. Because Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush are coming to town on Sunday and the 1-1 Lions rank sixth in points per game (27.5).
