Shanahans: RGIII looking 'better' in practice

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan says Robert Griffin III is on track to be a game-time decision Sunday.

“I don’t know yet,” Shanahan said Thursday when asked who his starting quarterback will be at Cleveland Browns Stadium. “We’ll get a chance to see how Robert progresses during the week and we’ll make a decision probably on game day.”

The coach did, however, note that his starting quarterback is showing signs of progress, four days after spraining the LCL in his right knee against the Ravens.

Griffin’s status officially was listed as “limited participation” for a second consecutive day. Shanahan, however, said Griffin is making progress.

“Better,” the coach said. “You can see he’s more comfortable. He was improved over yesterday.”

Asked if he needed to see Griffin practice at “full strength” before Sunday morning, Shanahan said, “You would like to.” The coach wouldn’t say whether Griffin would attempt to practice at full-go Friday.

“You’ve got to have a good feeling that he can play at full strength,” he said. “If he can do that, then he’ll play.”

Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said if there's no risk Griffin will reinjure himself, there's a good chance the standout rookie will suit up.

“If Robert is healthy enough to play the position and he can protect himself and it won’t cause any harm any cause to his knee, I want him out there,” Kyle Shanahan said. “I know he wants to be out there, but it comes down to there is risk of him hurting himself more and can he protect himself?”
