Shanahan responds to RG3 saying he disagrees with plan
RICHMOND—A few hours after Robert Griffin III said he anticipated starting the next phase of his recovery on Tuesday afternoon, Coach Mike Shanahan said the Redskins quarterback will instead begin participating in 11-on-11 reps on Wednesday.
Shanahan said the cancellation Saturday’s practice due to thunderstorms forced the team to adjust its schedule.
“He’ll take a couple of reps on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with each team period,” Shananan said. “Tomorrow will be the same as it’s been [7-on-7 drills] and walkthroughs like we did earlier today.”
Shanahan also squashed the notion of Griffin playing in the preseason. Griffin said in his weekly news conference that he hoped to suit up for the third preseason game against the Bills on Aug. 24.
“No, no possibility,” Shanahan said.
“I love it when somebody wants to be out there; that’s a good problem to have as a head coach,” Shanahan added. “But my job is to make sure that we do the best thing for Robert. And that’s what I’m going to try to do.”
