For Redskins, time to look to 2014 draft

Special teams and the defensive secondary have been a mess for the Redskins this season, and injured cornerback Richard Crawford could have helped both units this season. Crawford, who went down with a season ending knee injury in the preseason, was at FedEx Field prior to the Washington game against the Dallas Cowboys with a big smile on his face.

"I was running for the first time on Friday," Crawford said. The second year man out of Southern Methodist had surgery to repair torn ligaments in his knee in August, so being able to run was a big step in his recovery.

Crawford said he felt good afterwards, and he considered it "a good Christmas present."

In 2013 Crawford showed major promise as a punt returner, a position that this season has hosted a revolving door of players and gaffes.

"I wish I was out there," Crawford said. He added it's been a tough year to be hurt, believing he would be able to help his teammates on defense and special teams.
