RG3 wins another award

The awards continue to pour in after Robert Griffin IIIs magical junior season at Baylor University. First the All-American honors, then the Heisman Trophy, and now Griffin III has been named the 2011-12 Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year.

Griffin III earns the accolade for his great display of sportsmanship on and off the football field. The award also takes into account community service and performance as a student-athlete.

Griffin III was drafted second overall by the Washington Redskins after leading the Bears to their second ten-win season in the programs history. He finished with school records of 4,293 yards and 37 passing touchdowns.

The Copperas Cove, Texas-native graduated from Baylor in 2010 with a degree in political science. He has not only represented the school well on the field, but has also been an off-field ambassador for the school since his rise to fame.

Week 7 Redskins vs. Lions Live Updates:

2:17 pm. - And the Redskins tie it up 3-3 with a Dustin Hopkins field goal to end the half.

2:00 p.m. - Oof. Dustin Hopkins doinked a field goal attempt off the top of the left cross bar, and it's still 3-0 Lions in the second quarter.

1:56 p.m. - Brandon Scherff has left the game with an apparent shoulder injury. According to our JP Finlay, he's questionable to return.

1:42 p.m. - Lions strike first on a 43-yard field goal to make it 3-0 early in the second quarter.

1:40 p.m. - A tough stat for Jones.

1:35 p.m. - So far there's been a missed field goal by the Lions, followed by a fumble recovered for a touchback by Matt Jones. Will the Redskins change running backs?

1:25 p.m. - Well, this game is off to an interesting start. Matt Stafford found Golden Tate on a third and long, but did so in, uh, unique fashion.

12:39 p.m. — Michigan State fans apparently wanted to get a glimpse of their favorite son. The school ran a promotion for students, faculty and alumni to get discounted tickets to see Kirk Cousins's homecoming.

12:27 p.m. - In his first NFL start in his home state of Michigan, Kirk Cousins was sure to see more than a few familiar faces. And sure enough, it seems the entire Cousins clan has come out in full force to support the Redskins' quarterback.

12:21 p.m. - Well, well, a familiar face in the DMV is in the house at Ford Field.  Former Maryland head coach Randy Edsall, now apart of the Lions coaching staff, looked on during pregame warmup before his team faced the Redskins. Edsall's official title with Detroit is "Director of Football Research-Special Projects."

12:10 p.m. - "Gotta support the team."

11:55 a.m - Do you know who is starting at RB for the Lions? I ask because even I'm not sure.

/looks on Google/

Dwayne Washington. Never heard of him.

11:45 a.m. - What you need to know: The Lions and Redskins both love to chuck the pigskin. But the game could be decided by the run game. Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick are out for the Lions. Matt Jones and Robert Kelley are healthy and need to make a difference when calle dupon for the Redskins. The two teams may not run it a lot, but when they do, the backs need to capitalize

11:35 a.m. - The Redskins inactive list is in: Jordan Reed is OUT, but DeSean Jackson and Su'a Cravens are ACTIVE. That is good news.

11: 25 a.m. - It's a homecoming of sorts for Kirk Cousins. The Michigan native is back in town, and a host of Cousins' family is at Fordf Field to watch him play.
