RG3 will push to play in 3rd preseason game
RICHMOND--Two weeks ago, it sounded as though the door had been slammed shut on Robert Griffin III's hopes of playing in the preseason.
That door, however, seems to be cracked now.
“I want to play--let’s get that straight,” Griffin said Monday during his weekly news conference. “I want to play in the preseason. Coaches are saying, if things go great these next couple of days and next week, then maybe.”
Griffin did not play in Thursday’s preseason opener in Tennessee. And given that he isn’t even scheduled to begin 11-on-11 drills until Tuesday, it’s almost certain that he wouldn’t be ready to play Monday night vs. the Steelers.
Griffin, though, said he plans to make a push for the third preseason game against the Bills on Aug 24. That would mark exactly 7 ½ months after the reconstructive surgery on his right knee.
“It’s hard ‘no’ right now,” Griffin said. “It’s my job to make that a soft ‘no’ and possibly a ‘yes’. But I’m definitely going to push for it. I feel ready to go. We’ll see what happens. I’ll definitely push for that third game, but who knows what happens.”
