RICHMOND—Robert Griffin III’s level of participation in practice is gradually increasing.

The Redskins quarterback took eight snaps during 7-on-7 drills in each of the first three days of training camp. That number jumped to 10 earlier Monday and Tuesday.

Then on Wednesday, Griffin got his heaviest workload since suffering a serious knee injury last January. He took “16 or 17” snaps over the course of a practice that was conducted in a steady rain, according to Coach Mike Shanahan.

“Today, he had 16 or 17 [snaps] and we’ll continue that for about a week,” Shanahan said. “We have a plan if there is no setback. If there is a setback then obviously we alter the plan. But we do have a plan to get him ready and, right now, we’ll stay with that plan.”

Griffin's performance in 7-on-7 drills was a mixed bag. The second year signal caller accelerated quickly as he sprinted into the end zone for a touchdown. But he also got picked off by Josh Wilson on a poorly thrown pass.

Griffin has yet to participate in any 11-on-11 drills that would expose him to a pass rush. It’s unclear when he will join those sessions, but he appears to be progressing steadily toward that milestone.
