The Redskins are hosting former Saints center Brian De La Puente for a visit, according to multiple reports.
De La Puente has started 44 of 48 career games, including all 16 the past two seasons. The 28-year-old is rated as the second best free agent at his position by Rotoworld.com (behind the Browns’ Alex Mack.)
De La Puente (6-3, 306) did not miss a snap the past two seasons. In 2013, he was faulted for three quarterback sacks and three hits, according to ProFootballFocus.com.
Since the start of free agency, the Redskins have begun retooling an offensive line that excelled in run blocking but occasionally struggled in pass protection. Last week, the team signed free agent guard Shawn Lauvao and released veteran center Will Montgomery. The team also hosted tackle Donald Penn on Sunday but Penn signed with the Raiders.
De La Puente had a base salary of $2.023 million last season.
The Redskins were $7.02 million under the salary cap ceiling, according to NFLPA figures, as of this afternoon.
