Would Art Briles be a good fit for the Redskins?

Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen and other team officials were in Seattle on Tuesday to interview Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell for their vacant head coaching position, according to multiple reports.

Mike Shanahan was fired on Monday morning after posting his third double-digit loss season in four years.

Bevell, 43, has spent the past three seasons in Seattle, where he has helped mold second-year quarterback Russell Wilson into one of the game’s most versatile quarterbacks. This season, the 13-3 Seahawks boast the league’s fourth best ground attack (136 yards per game) and rank ninth in points (26.1 per).

The Seahawks granted the Redskins permission to interview Bevell on Tuesday, before the Jan. 5 interview date for assistants whose teams have a first round bye in the playoffs, Schefter wrote on Twitter.

The Redskins are also expected to interview Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott this weekend in Charlotte, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer. McDermott, 39, oversees the NFL’s second-ranked defense.

The news was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
