Return specialist Brandon Banks will not return to the Redskins next season, according to a published report.
The Redskins do not intend to tender Banks, a pending restricted free agent, and thus, the pint-sized receiver will be eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, according to John Keim of the Washington Examiner.
The move does not come as much of a surprise given the way Banks’ 2012 season unfolded. The 25-year-old lost his job as the Redskins’ punt and kick returner in December after struggling for much of the season and being questioned for his decision-making.
Banks also was inactive for the final five games and lost one of his most ardent supporters when special teams coach Danny Smith joined the Steelers.
In 12 games, Banks was not used much as a receiver, hauling in only eight passes for 15 yards.
