RICHMOND – The Redskins have signed free agent linebacker Quan Sturdivant, the team announced Thursday morning.
The 24-year-old Sturdivant played collegiately at North Carolina and was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 draft by the Cardinals. The 6-foot-1, 241 inside linebacker spent his rookie season on the Cards’ practice squad, then was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad last season.
Sturdivant is the second inside linebacker the team has signed since losing Keenan Robinson (pectoral muscle tear) last month, joining veteran Nick Barnett, who is still recovering from offseason knee surgery.
The Redskins had room on their roster for another player after they released WR Devery Henderson on Wednesday.
