Running back Chris Thompson has signed his rookie contract with the Redskins, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.

Thompson, who was taken in the fifth round (154th overall), is expected to challenge veteran Roy Helu Jr. for the change-of-pace back job in training camp.

Thompson is currently recovering from ACL surgery on his left knee and is not expected to participate fully when OTAs begin on Monday. The 5 foot 7, 192-pound Florida State product did, however, tell earlier this month that he has resumed sprinting and cutting and hopes to receive medical clearance in time for the start of camp on July 25th.

A native of Greenville, Fla., Thompson is the third of the Redskins' seven 2013 draft picks to sign this week, joining linebacker Brandon Jenkins and safety Bacarri Rambo.

The Redskins also formally announced the signing of free agent wide receiver Lance Lewis (East Carolina). The 24-year-old was in Washington’s training camp last summer but was released in late August.
