It’s five down, two to got for the Redskins.

The team announced on Friday that they have signed Phillip Thomas, their fourth-round draft pick, to a contract. Thomas, a safety out of Fresno State, was the 119th overall selection in the draft.

All rookie contracts are for four years. Under the rookie salary system Thomas should receiver about the same deal that teammate Keenan Robinson, who coincidentally was the 119th pick in the draft in 2012. That contract was worth about $2.5 million with a signing bonus of $420,000.

There are high hopes that Thomas, 24, can be a part of the solution for the Redskins at safety, a position that has been a sore spot for the team since the death of Sean Taylor in 2007.

So far, the Redskins have come to terms with Thomas, safety Bacarri Rambo, running backs Chris Thomas and Jawan Jamison, and linebacker Brandon Jenkins. Still unsigned are cornerback David Amerson, the team’s top pick (2nd round), and tight end Jordan Reed (3rd round).
