The Redskins have informed center Will Montgomery that he will be released.
Montgomery was one of the longest-tenured Redskins on the roster. He signed with the team as a free agent in December of 2008. In six season with the team he has played in 77 games, starting 57. In 2011 he moved to center and has been the team’s primary starter there ever since.
The Redskins signed free agent guard Shawn Lauvao on Tuesday. The likely plan is for left guard Kory Lichtensteiger to move to center and for Lauvao to take the guard spot. There are plenty of other possibilities including 2012 draft picks Josh LeRibeus and Adam Gettis who could be in the mix.
The move saves the Redskins $1.92 million in salary cap space.
