Shanahan on Cousins' improvement from last year
With the Redskins’ 2013 season winding down, CSNWashington.com will be keeping an eye on the upcoming college bowl games and the NFL prospects who could be on Washington’s radar in 2014 draft.
What: Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Who: Buffalo vs San Diego State
When: Saturday Dec. 21, 5:30 pm, ESPN
Players to watch:
One name stands far above the rest in the Potato Bowl: Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack. By most accounts Mack will be gone before the Redskins make a pick, by most experts Mack is a Top 20 talent. It's easy to understand why, the 6'3", 248 lb. linebacker is a big play machine. Against Ohio State in Buffalo's opener, Mack registered nine tackles, two and half sacks and an interception returned for a touchdown. A Butkus Award finalist, Mack would make an instant impact for the Redskins defense in the 3-4, but without a trade or an unexpected development, it's hard to see a situation where he lands in the Burgundy and Gold.
San Diego State does not have a sure-fire talent like Mack, but the Aztecs will head to Boise with a stout offensive line that could turn out a few pros. Bryce Quigley is a 6'5", 300 lb offensive tackle that does not project before the 6th round, but given a chance to develop, Quigley has the frame to earn a roster spot in the pros.
