Florio: "Need a coach who truly wants RG3"
With the Redskins’ 2013 season now over, CSNWashington.com will be keeping an eye on the upcoming college bowl games and the NFL prospects who could be on Washington’s radar in the 2014 draft.
What: Capital One Bowl
Who: South Carolina (10-2) vs. Wisconsin (9-3)
When: Today, 1 p.m. (ABC)
Players to watch: South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney is the headliner in this game, but both teams feature a number of NFL prospects.
As always, it’s important to note that the Redskins don’t have a first round pick, so the elite talent, like Clowney, is out of their reach.
That said, Washington will be in the market for wide receivers this offseason, so they might have their eye on a player like Wisconsin wide receiver Jared Abbrederis (6-2, 190). He was a first-team All-Big Ten selection after hauling in 73 receptions for 1,051 yards and seven touchdowns. Abbrederis can also return kicks and punts—another Redskins’ need. He’s accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl and is projected to be a second or third round pick.
Another Badger worth watching is LB Chris Borland (5-11, 246). He also has accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl and is projected as second or third rounder.
On the South Carolina side, the player to keep an eye on is 6-3, 298-pound DT Kelcy Quarles, who is leaving school early for the NFL. Quarles has 9.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss this season.
