Why are Redskins where they are? Shanahan not sure

At 3-12, despite one game remaining against the New York Giants, it's utterly obvious that the Redskins season is over. But looking back, it's interesting to wonder what game could have changed the course of the Redskins season.

Most Skins fans will remember a dropped touchdown from receiver Aldrick Robinson in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions. If Robinson hangs on for that catch and the Skins win, would the year have gone differently? The team won the following week in Oakland, so hypothetically the Redskins would have been 2-2 going into Dallas in Week 5. That seems so much different than 1-3.

But was the real turning point on the season even earlier than that, when Robert Griffin III started Week 1? Hindsight would show that Griffin was not completely recovered from offseason knee surgery. What if Kirk Cousins played the first four games of the season, and RG3's season began in Week 5?

Whatever the turning point was, 2013 is a lost year for Washington. Nothing left to do but debate hypotheticals, so let us know what you think in the comments!
