Florio: I think Allen already knows who he wants

Depending what report you believe, Jay Gruden appears to be the front-runner for the Redskins head coach job. What is certain is Gruden had a long dinner with Redskins brass Tuesday night in Reston and then an official interview Wednesday at Redskins Park.

Beyond that, nothing is certain. Multiple outlets have said Gruden is the leader in the clubhouse for the Redskins job, but there are other candidates the Redskins still plan on bringing in like James Franklin, not to mention other coaches the team would like to interview when the playoffs end, like Ken Whisenhunt and Greg Roman. Gruden also has other interviews scheduled, including a date with Detroit on Friday.

Gruden's offenses in Cincinnati have fared well, but not great. He is credited with the development of quarterback Andy Dalton, though the red-headed quarterback's actual development can be questioned.

The flip side is Gruden is said to have the respect of his players, a strong mind for play-calling and creative offense, and is a great motivator.

Does Gruden deserve to be the Redskins No. 1 choice? Is he? Or is this a smokescreen so Dan Snyder can go after another candidate? Do you expect Gruden to become the next Redskins coach? Let us know in the comments.
