Your Wednesday morning open thread:
I saw the following exchange on Twitter between NFL.com writer Chris Wesseling and former Jets scout Joe Bommarito. The topic was franchise quarterbacks.
@AskTheScout Right now? Rodgers, Luck, RG3, Brady, Brees, Big Ben, Ryan, Cam, Peyton, Flacco, Eli, Romo, Stafford and likely Wilson + Kaep.— Chris Wesseling (@ChrisWesseling) July 9, 2013
Here was Bommerito's response:
@ChrisWesseling I like that group but the young guys still need to past the test of time.— Joe Bommarito (@AskTheScout) July 9, 2013
What do you think? Is it too soon to call RG3 or Luck a "franchise quarterback"? Or have you seen enough out of them to see that the shoe fits?
Also, as an aside, do you agree with Wesseling's list of franchise QB's? He has 13 plus two maybes. Does half of the league really have a franchise QB? Or would you trim some names from the list? Or maybe add to it?
I have seen enough of both Griffin and Luck to say with complete confidence that they are franchise quarterbacks. They both are better than about half of the QB's that Wesseling lists right now and they will be better than some of the other aging names on the list (Brees, Peyton, Brady) sometime in the next four or five years.
