Your Tuesday open thread:

I had a post on Barry Cofield yesterday and whenever he is discussed, the question of whether or not he should be playing nose tackle comes up. As noted in the post, he is a few inches taller and a couple of dozen pounds lighter than the prototype for the position in the NFL. There are many who say that the Redskins need to have the shorter, wider version of nose tackle of the 3-4 defense is very going to work the way it's supposed to.

Cofield is not a great run stuffer but he is adequate.  But according to Pro Football Focus, no other 3-4 nose tackle puts more pressure on the quarterback than Cofield. And, in case you haven't noticed, the NFL is now a passing league.

Update: My friend @Jimmy_Beast from Blogging the Beast noted that while most 3-4 NT's are heavier than Cofield, some other 3-4 teams are moving to the lighter man in the middle. As a result, Cofield is only about five pounds lighter than the average NFL nose.

Is Cofield the right guy for the job? Or should the Redskins move him to end and find another, more traditional space eater in the middle?
