4 downs: Redskins get first W of the season

Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen said he suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee during Sunday’s game. He doesn't believe the injury is serious but he's unsure if he’ll miss any time.

Paulsen was hurt while blocking late in the 24-14 victory over the Raiders.

“It was nothing malicious; it was one of those freak things and thankfully it wasn’t too serious,” said Paulsen, who was wearing a hinged brace. “And then it kind of took me a little while to realize it wasn’t quite right.”

Paulsen will spend the bye week rehabbing the injury – he said surgery has been ruled out – and hopes to be ready soon.

“It’s a point of relief for me that I’ve got some time to work on it,” he said. “It kind of depends on the individual. I’m cautiously optimistic moving forward. We’ll see.”

Coach Mike Shanahan said he’s hopeful Paulsen will be available for the Redskins’ next game in Dallas on Oct. 13.

“You never know for sure, but he’ll get treatment all this week,” Shanahan said. “We’ll find out more next Monday. Hopefully he’ll be back.”
