Redskins' defensive line depth being put to test
The Redskins are still looking for depth at the inside linebacker spot in the wake of the season-ending injury to Keenan Robinson.
A league source confirmed to CSNwashington.com Redskins Insider Tarik El-Bashir that former Broncos linebacker Joe Mays, who visited the Redskins on Saturday, is leaving without a contract.
Mays was Denver’s starting Mike linebacker in 2011 but things went downhill last year. First he was demoted from the starting lineup and then he ended up on injured reserve after breaking his leg and ankle on special teams. He was released in a salary cap move last week. He was slated to make $4 million with the Broncos this year.
The Redskins have only $1.4 million in salary cap room left and according to reports multiple teams were interested in Mays. Perhaps if Mays can’t find a better offer he could enter back into talks with the Redskins.
