Shanahan: "Be tough on yourself."

After missing a second straight game because of a tweaked groin muscle, Redskins kicker Kai Forbath says he hopes to be ready Sunday in Oakland.

“A lot closer,” Forbath said Monday morning. “Making progress every day. I thought it was going to be ready this week but they didn’t want to rush it. It’s looking positive for this week.”

With Forbath sidelined, John Potter connected on field goal attempts from 43 and 21 yards out in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Lions. Potter also put four of his five kickoffs into the end zone, including three for touchbacks.

Forbath beat out Potter in training camp and when Forbath is healthy he's expected to resume as the Redskins’ No. 1 kicker.

The injury, Forbath said, is just a strain, not a tear.

"I just don’t want it to linger the whole season,” he said. “It’s lasted a lot longer than we thought. I thought it was just going to be a couple days and it would be better. It’s frustrating. But we’re making progress.”
