OK, whos up for a breakdown of a mid-July NFL power poll?Uh, anybody?Ah, I see a few hands there in the back of the room. I promise Ill keep it quick.Gil Brandt of NFL.com cranked out his initial power poll of 2012 and it immediately gained some credibility with me because he didnt automatically put the Super Bowl champion Giants in the top spot. They werent close to being the best team over 16 games last year. They got hot at the right time and they are worthy champions but that means little now in terms of who the best teams are in 2012.Brandt has the Packers on top, the Patriots second, and the Eagles third with the Giants coming in sixth. You have to go down to 16th to find the Cowboys. After that, keep scrolling down to the 26th spot to find your Washington Redskins. Brandt is bullish on the chances of Robert Griffin III being an impact player, saying that the rookie QB is the real deal. However, Brandt says that the defense is only middle of the pack which is hard to argue with until they start getting more takeaways. If these power ranking really mattered I suppose you could the fact that four of the six teams ranked below Washingtonthe Bucs, Vikings, Rams, and Brownsare all on the Redskins 2012 schedule. What do you think? Is 26th about right for a team with a rookie quarterback coming off of a 5-11 season? Or are Brandts old Cowboys roots showing?
On Monday morning, the Redskins made several new coaching hires official, including Jim Tomsula as the new defensive line coach.
Tomsula was out of football in 2016 after serving as the 49ers head coach for the 2015 season in which the team finished 5-11.
Despite struggling as a head coach, Tomsula gained an odd, if not heavy cult following. It made little sense considering he has the look and demeanor of someone who was put on this earth to coach football and coach football only. But through the glories of the internet came this:
The Jimmy Tomsula rap song.

It's just a demo, and I suppose the full version could be out there somewhere since this song is over a year old. But there's something hypnotizing about 60 consecutive seconds of "Open up my shirt like im Jimmy Tom-Sula."
How long before we begin hearing this song at FedEx Field on Sundays?
The Redskins found two new coordinators - both in house - and Rich Tandler is more excited by the hires than JP Finlay. Listen as they break down the promotions, and talk Kirk Cousins.
