His team is not coming anywhere near to meeting expectations. He is worse this year in virtually every statistical category than he was in 2012. Virtually everything he says and does is scrutinized and frequently criticized. For that matter, a lot of what he doesn’t do or say draws fire as well.

Despite all of that, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III says that he is still having fun playing football.

“It’s just the attitude you have to bring to the game,” he said.

The team’s 3-9 record makes keeping a good attitude tough sometimes.

“We all play the game to win, but when you’re losing and not having the year that we wanted to have as an organization, as a team, yeah, it makes it tough,” he said. “It makes it hard on those guys in the locker room when you have to sit there and talk about [it]… We knew we’re a better team than this and we’re not going out there and showing it, so that makes it a lot harder.”

But the bottom line to Griffin is that he and his teammates get to play a game for a living.

“It’s still a fun game. You still get to go out there and do something that you’ve done your whole life and have fun doing it,” he said. “I don’t think people can see it from that perspective, but inside that locker room, you still have to look at it that way and still be able to smile when everybody wants you to have your head down and be frowning.”
