Kirk Cousins apologizes for his new haircut

Sometimes a bad choice and a communications breakdown can cost a football team a turnover or a missed opportunity for a touchdown.

In Kirk Cousins’ case, they cost him a bad haircut.

Cousins showed up for a Wednesday afternoon press conference at Redskins Park with considerably less hair than he had when he talked to the media after leading the Redskins to a 38-21 win in Cleveland.

After apologizing to his friends and family back home for the look, he explained that he was out and in need of a haircut on Monday. There were two places to get that done, a national chain and a small shop. He chose the small business. Let him take it from there.

“The lady who cut my hair wasn’t speaking English all that clearly,” he said. “There was a communication breakdown. She basically gave me a Mohawk.”

Cousins wasn’t wearing his glasses or contacts so he didn’t realize what had happened until it was too late.

“She wheels me back around. I look at the mirror and I realized I had a Mohawk,” he said. “So I told her, ‘Just shave it off. I don’t know what to tell you.’”

Cousins took it all in good humor but he said that the haircut revealed something about himself that he didn’t know before. He found out that he has a hairline that is, well, heading north.

“That was tough to take,” he said. “My dad is more or less completely bald and I was hoping I wasn’t going to get his genes, but it clearly looks like I did.”
