The Redskins expect negotiations with linebacker Brian Orakpo to accelerate this weekend at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, general manager Bruce Allen told reporters on Friday.

“We’re going to have some more conversations with his representative here,” Allen said, referring to Ben Dogra of Creative Artists Agency. “And we’ll see where it goes.”

Allen also said the team has not decided whether it will use the franchise tag on Orakpo, who can become an unrestricted free agent next month. The franchise tag would ensure the Redskins retain Orakpo's services in 2014 but it will also cost them about $11 million.

“We really haven’t got into those types of specifics yet,” Allen said. “His agent is supposed to have some ideas on what he would like to propose to us, today or tomorrow.”

Last season, Orakpo, 27, led the team with 10 sacks, including seven in the final seven games.

Asked where Orakpo ranks among the team’s offseason priorities, Allen acknowledged that he’s up there. But he was also quick to point out that he’s not the only player they want to get under contract.

“Well, we like Brian,” Allen said. “There’s no doubt we like Brian, as well as a number of other players. If we were just one player short, that would be an easy question. But we have several [positions] that we’re looking to fill.”
