Last week, water temperatures remained steady and by the end of the week, water cleared up nicely! This week, after a rough start, fishing should be improving!

This is a weather-dependent time of the year. Fish are up shallow and biting. NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, “A cold and snowy beginning of the week and a gradual warm up under mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 40s. Warming by Thursday but a bit windy. Friday and into the weekend temperatures will make it into the upper  50s.”

Fish are close to hard cover near deep water. Find clear water. With cold water, suspending jerkbaits like Lucky Craft Pointer 78s in Baby Bass or Aurora gold will allow baits to stay in the strike zone. A low stretch line like 12-pound GAMMA Copoly will keep baits down and stationary. Long pauses allow fish to find baits.

Once fish are located, bottom baits like 3/8-ounce Punisher hair jigs with either small plastic chunks or small craws. Use Punisher rattles and allow baits to sit. Soak bottom boats in garlic Jack's Juice to encourage fish to hold on longer. GAMMA Edge 12-pound Fluorocarbon line has a smaller diameter making strike detection easier and hooksets more reliable.

Green pumpkin MIZMO tubes with an insert head on 8-pound test GAMMA Copoly can be fished shallow and toward the drops. If the water gets a bit stained, go to darker patterns.

Curl tail grubs on 1/4 ounce jig heads crawled on the bottom and stopped will get bites. Drop shot and split shot rigs work too. Use thinner line diameter like 6 or 8 pound test and 3/16 ounce weights.

Make slow presentations and use bulky, loud baits in stained water.
