Summer Bass!

Bass are rapidly moving from post spawn to summer patterns. Tides are rising and finally closer to normal and water temperatures are already at August levelsnear 85! NBC Ch. 4 meteorologist "Weather Kim" Martucci says, "A cooling off period begins the week with a slight warm up bringing unsettled weather toward the end of the week, thunderstorms possible. Nice and comfortable in the 80 degree range until then.

Time to unleash the topwaters. Depending on terrain, hollow frogs, poppers and walkers are solid bets. Hollow frogs work at lower tides anytime during the day. Otherwise, poppers and walkers are best when water is clear and early in the morning. They can only be used when there is enough water over submerged grass. Buzzbaits are great too! Lucky Craft G-Splash 65 and 80 poppers work, going to the larger bait with chop or a bit of stainor higher tides. For walkers, I like the Gunfish 110! This lure is loud and I use the darker one when there is a bit of stain or heavy cloud cover. Otherwise, try baitfish patterns.

Manns Baby 1-Minus is the next bait to tryas long as there is enough water to use it! All you need is about a foot over the grass. As the sun rises, you need to fish deeper in the area you are fishing. Try swimming jigs like the Manns Stone Jig with a HardNose craw trailer. Swim this or jerk this through the grassfish hit it on the pause. Otherwise, chatterbaits in craw patterns are effective when fish are active.

Its still a fundamental technique to pitch Mizmo tubes in craw patterns around grass edges, into grass holes, along pad edges and hard cover like docks and logs. Texas rig with a ounce pegged weight.
